故郷の青森市に暮らし働きながらダンスを踊っていた2008年、国際芸術センター青森(ACAC)に滞在していたウェールズ出身の振付家、ショーネッド・ヒューズに出会った。彼女のWSに参加した後、約2週間 17:30-22:00 まで毎日二人で踊った。Hi, Bye, Sorry, Thank youくらいしか英語が話せなかった私は、仕事の後急いでACACへ車で向かい、Sorry Sorry と言って稽古着に着替え、そこからはショーネッドの動きを全部真似た。後々本人から聞いた話だが、「なんで玲奈は私の動きを全部真似するんだ！？」と少し怖かったらしい。ショーネッドの動きを全部真似るという姿勢は、英語が話せない私なりのやる気表明だった。私たちの間には込み入った英語での会話はなかったけれど、身体で二入で踊る感覚を掴んでいったように思う。彼女にとって初めての日本である青森で過ごした時間を通して、最終的に約20分のピースが生まれた。これが、長年彼女と踊ることになる『Aomori Project』の始まり、種。その後、様々な出会いや別れを繰り返しながら、2017年までの10年間、『Aomori Project』を国内外、様々な場所で踊り続けた。プロジェクト運営・作品づくりの大変さ、インディペンデントアーティストとして生きていくことの過酷さを身近で見て感じて、学んだ。ダンサー、そして一人の人間としても彼女から鍛えられたし、様々な影響をショーネッドから受けている。作品を作ったほうがいいとアドバイスしてくれたのも彼女だった。
ショーネッド・ヒューズ『Aomori Project』は、ダンサーとして歳をとっても、これから先もずっと踊っていきたい大切な作品。
In 2008, when I lived, worked and danced in my hometown of Aomori, I met a Welsh choreographer, Sioned Huws, who was staying at the Aomori Contemporary Arts Center (ACAC). After participating in her WS, we danced together every day until 17:30-22:00 for about 2 weeks. Since I could speak English only Hi, Bye, Sorry, Thank you, I rushed to ACAC after work and said Sorry Sorry, I changed into training clothes and imitated all the movements of Sioned. I heard that later from her, she felt little scared, “Why do Reina imitate everything ?” The attitude of imitating all of Sioned’s movements was my strong motivation for dance. There wasn’t a complicated English conversation between us, but I think we got a sense of dancing with two bodies. And finally, a piece came out which is about 20 minutes from her spending time in Aomori, Japan. This is the beginning and seed of the “Aomori Project”, where I will dance with Sioned for many years. Repeated various encounters and continued to dance “Aomori Project” at various places in Japan and overseas for 10 years until 2017. I learned the difficulties of project management and creation, and the rigors of living as an independent artist. As a dancer and a human being, I was trained by her very much and various influences have been received from Sioned. It was also she who advised me to create a dance work.
An important work that I would like to continue dancing even as I grow old: Sioned Huws “Aomori Project”
